    • COLUMBIA - Lt. Col. James S. Aucoin, U.S. Army Retired, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 after a battle with cancer. He was 76 years old. Born in Newton, Massachusetts on November 3, 1938 he was the oldest son of the late Howard S. Aucoin and the late Margaret Mary Boudreau. He earned a B.S. degree in Management from Northeastern University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Arkansas. Lt. Col. Aucoin served over 20 years as an active duty officer in the U.S. Army. He was a decorated veteran having earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He had been stationed in Georgia (Ft. Benning and Ft. Gordon); Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey; Korea; Vietnam; Okinawa; Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; Royal Air Force Upper Hayford, Oxfordshire, England; British Staff College, Camberley, Surrey, England; Ft. Jackson, South Carolina; the Philippines; and Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Upon retiring from the Army, Lt. Col. Aucoin was employed by Ford Aero Space in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After retiring from Ford Aero Space, he returned to Columbia, South Carolina where he spent his time refinishing furniture for family and friends. Lt. Col. Aucoin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith and children, Charis Lancaster, Colonel Charles (Dawn) Aucoin (U.S.A.R. Retired), Renee Duffield, Russell (Lisa) Aucoin, and Adrienne (Jack) Rosenbloom; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles E. Aucoin of Newton, Massachusetts and William Aucoin of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Aucoin Family will receive guests from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A Full Military Honors Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Ft. Jackson National Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Aucoin Memorial at 24 Hours of Booty, an organization devoted to support of cancer survivorship and navigation programs.
