- John Johnson, 93, of the DeKalb County Nursing Home, died Sunday, May 31, 1987 at the nursing home. He was born May 23, 1894 in Halevik, Sweden and came to the United States in 1913. He married Agnes Anderson, who preceded him in death, and later married Sara Larson on Nov 25, 1953 in DeKalb. He was co-owner of Johnson and Jacobson Building Contractors in DeKalb and built Shabbona High School, Sycamore Junior High School, Sandwich Hospital, the Federated Church of Sycamore, Anderson Hall at Northern Illinois University and Huntley Middle School, among other projects. He retired in 1964 after 50 years in the business. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of DeKalb and the Viking Lodge of Rockford. He is survived by his wife, Sara; one daughter, Mildred (Walter) Peterson, of Malta; one stepdaughter, Shirley (Donald) Ebaugh, of Dixon; one stepson, Roland (Nonine) Larson, of Palatine; eight grandchildren; four great-garndchildren; one brother, Burt Johnson, of Malta; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes; his parents; three sisters; and one brother. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church of DeKalb with the Rev. Thomas Hanson officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery.
